University of Cincinnati Libraries serves UC's 50,000+ students with 13 libraries across all of UC's campuses. I spent two co-op rotations at the University of Cincinnati Libraries as their Communications Design Co-op in the Spring 23 and Fall 23 semesters.
Edible Books
The Edible Books event was originally created by librarian Judith A. Hoffberg to celebrate the birthday of Jean Brillat-Savarin, the author of "Physiologie du goût, a witty meditation on food". People typically celebrate the event by making baked goods and/or edible foods based on, or around, books! Since 2001, on or around April 1st, UC Libraries has participated in the event.
Exhibits
Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15th to October 15th. This exhibit covers a lot of amazing statistics about how many Hispanic people are living in the United States and also features a collection of books about Hispanic culture, by Hispanic authors.
The typefaces I chose are Basic Sans and Mixta Didonne Alt which are both by a Chilean typeface foundry, Latinotype.
History of Women in CEAS
Provided with information from the Women in Engineering Trailblazers and the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, I made a timeline of the History of Women in CEAS. The timeline covers significant events in the college, the formation of associations and groups, engineering co-op history, and the first time a woman has received that degree from 1920-2022.
Despite colors having no significance in determining gender, it is hard to escape the ‘boy means blue and girl means pink’ when it comes to gender. That is why I made a point not to use the color pink while making this exhibit.
Flyers
Triceracopter Sticker
UC Libraries gives out stickers to students all the time. I made this silly Triceracopter sticker, and it has become wildly popular. Every semester now, UC Libraries has to order 1,000+ stickers to keep up with the demand!
UC Libraries T-Shirt
I was tasked with designing a t-shirt for all UC Library staff to wear. I made a lot of iterations and had to navigate UC's brand standards for apparel.
